Dear Sir / Madam,

A group of itrainers http://dgroups.org/groups/itrainers members from Uganda decided to organise and host a local itrainer’s workshop in December 2007 that would bring together Ugandan members and create a space to exchange practical experiences and knowledge related to ICT training. More specifically, the organisers of the event are interested to explore training practitioners’ experiences in designing and delivering training in Web 2.0 tools and applications for different audiences. These new tools hold great promise for enhancing social and professional networking, information sharing and collaboration, and recent national and international initiatives have highlighted the opportunities and limitations in the use of these tools for organisations in urban and rural African contexts.

In order for organisations and individuals in Uganda to make effective use of these opportunities however, relevant knowledge and skills capacities need to be in place – an important task which often falls back on the ICT trainers hired by, or associated with, these organisations.

Ugandan community members that are collaborating to put together this event are:

1. Clare Sempebwa from CERT Computer Solutions

2. Abubaker Basajjabaka from Bellanet Africa

3. Tonny Lule from the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UIICT)

4. Chris Kasangaki from the East African Centre for Open Source Software (EACOSS)

A brief History of the community

Itrainers is a community of practice comprising mainly of ICT4D trainers from Anglophone Africa. Our DGroup (http://dgroups.org/groups/itrainers) was established in July 2006 when we had our first face to face meeting in Lusaka Zambia. This is an online community of computer and Internet trainers in Anglophone Africa. The main topics for discussion are: how to deliver better training, solve problems and build our businesses.

Workshop Theme and Objectives

Theme:

How do you design and deliver training programmes that allow you to effectively build capacity in Web2.0 tools?

The workshop will answer the following questions:

1. Which Web 2.0 tools are relevant and appropriate for different training audiences?

2. Which tools and applications should the training activities focus on and why?

3. Which skills and knowledge do you yourself as a trainer need in order to design and Deliver effective Web 2.0 training programmes?

4. Which tips and tricks can you learn from other trainers that have already prepared and implemented Web 2.0 training activities?

This encounter will offer the opportunity to create or strengthen collaboration among trainers and within the community by learning from each other and involving each other in the design and execution of existing or new Web2.0 training initiatives.
