Training time should be increased to about 2.5 to 3 hours
Reasons:
1. Most institutions (training institutions inclusive) are bandwidth poor and so speeds might not be so good.
2. to allow room for practice (posting comments, allowing participants to analyse blogs and discuss related issues)
Introduction
Should include an abstract on blogs vis-à-vis ICT4D
Comparison of blogging (as an example of Web 2.0 tools) and (personal) websites (as an example of web 1.0 tools)
Add to Exercise in unit1 participants views/comments on blogs they just visited
Wording in Exercise, should be ….. Websites/personal websites
Ex 1.4. Add a Trainer’s note regarding authentification to some blogs before comments can be passed
On exercise on creation of blogs; include a step by step instruction.
Materials give an overview but don’t allow for instructional approach to working with RSS (don’t go beyond explanation of terms)
Lacking: identified target (as we don’t know whom it was targeted at, not sure if it meets its objectives vis-á-vis adequate info)
History could include the evaluation from static web to more dynamic/collaborative web and web 2 tools 2nd generation contextualise RSS within Web2 evolution
Formatting: needs to include
More graphics
Deeper breakdown so that text is less wordy / verbose (include more bullets, tables, etc. to better categorise sections)
More subtitles so as to entail easier more digestable bits
Major definitions/terms should be captured in side boxes for easy reference
RSS history and versions should be clear and separate section
Content: needs more info on
What you need
How it works
How it is delivered/received
Different types of newsreaders and their differences
How often one can get feeds
Needs hands-on/practical exercises guiding learner on How-To’s
More resources and links etc (and group existing ones better)
Atom not defined (as well as others such as GUIDS, social bookmarks, feed categories & so on) in text
Different formats (audio, text, graphics) should be mentioned much earlier and in a clearer fashion
Needs more examples
Overall Comments:
Difficult to follow
Hard to have overall picture / understanding of RSS based on the text provided
Should compare other sites’ content on RSS like Google, Wikipedia, BBC etc.
What we liked:
1. labours to define most of related terms
2. if trainer only had 5 minutes to convey facts about RSS, text supplies that; serves as somewhat of a springboard that you can use before going to other sources of unpacking;
3. language is simple and understandable except for terminology
