Purpose

  • To identify ways that wikis can support collaboration
  • To practice using a wiki in a real-time application

 

Materials/Equipment Needed

  • Computers with good connection to the internet
  • An LCD (not necessary but useful)

 

Planning

  • Create a wiki page
  • Ensure that all participants have a wiki account
  • Create a page for each group ie. Group One, Group Two, Group Three etc.

 

Instructions

  • Explain to participants that they will be working in groups of 3
  • Invite participatns to brainstorm on wiki applications. In other words, how could a wiki help them do their job better or allow them to do something that they aren't already doing.
  • Each group is asked to record their points on their page in the wiki before coming back into plenary.

 

Debrief (Plenary)

  • Invite participants to briefly share their ideas

 

Tips for Instructors

  • Use the overhead projector to show the results of each group
  • Following the session, garden the wiki putting the ideas in one section and reducing duplicate ideas
