TITLE: Long-term love of life-long learning
NAME OF ORIGINAL TELLER: Pamela McLean
NAME OF LISTENERS/ UNDERSTANDERS: Chris R. Kasangaki
1. LANDSCAPE
A rural area of high unemployment and low wages. Two children, goats and chickens and a very poorly paid husband.
2. DWELLING PLACE (precise location where action occurred)
I was at a hotel doing tedious boring menial work and I was bored out of my mind. I felt I had to make a change in my life situation.
3. CHARACTERS
Myself, my husband, my two children.
4. CHALLENGE
Need to escape from the unskilled female labour market.
5. ACTION
And the turning point was the moment when I realised the opportunity to study through the open University. Learnt about distance learning, use of computers and developed confidence and skills to become an independent learner.
6. RESOLUTION
Thanks to the “outreach” of ICTs, I am exploring how people trapped like I was - but in rural Nigeria - can have the opportunities I had - to stretch their minds and become independent learners. I am enjoying learning and continuing to learn.
7. IMAGES AND OBJECTS
