A Uganda budding student was given the opportunity to go do a Masters Programme abroad in the Netherlands in 2002.

University of Twente in Enschede in the eastern region of the Netherlands.

3. CHARACTERS (cast list, descriptive attributes and roles in story)

Ronald held the leading role as foreign Masters student. The secondary roles went out to the professor of Instrumentation for instruction and training and his assistant. The backdrop cast list consisted of fellow classmates.

4. CHALLENGE (problem or task that triggered the…)

Ronald’s major challenge stemmed from his lack of computer skills. As he was on a scholarship and interested in performing well, the hurdle of now having to constantly engage with technology was very stressful and lead to Ronald’s discomfort.

5. ACTION (sequence of events before, during and after your turning point)

Ronald struggled to stay afloat and master the technology, citing that “either you do it or you go back home”. However, much determination and the procurement of a PC and regular access to the internet, Ronald began capacitating himself; this was assisted by much overtime and some interaction with helpful peers.

And the turning point was the moment when…Ronald felt that he had acquired the necessary technical skills to move onto dealing with the course content and eventually pass the class.

With perseverance, access and hopefully a little assistance, one can accomplish whatever he sets out to do.
